Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights - HIB Score
Beginning with the September 2011-2012 school year, Johnnie Cochran Academy has conscientiously implemented the requirements found in the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act by educating students, staff and parents in accordance to N.J.S.A. 18A: 37-15C.
Since the implementation of the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act, Johnnie Cochran Academy has made progress in addressing and improving harassment, intimidation and bullying awareness. Activities such as the “Week of Respect” and “Peace Month,” as well as Character Education Lessons, have enhanced our students’ ability to identify bullying behaviors. Parents have been informed about the law through presentations at our Back to School Nights and via information sent home periodically.
While completing the NJDOE School Self-Assessment, we learned that our school has demonstrated strengths in the areas of HIB investigative procedures, HIB Programs, and Staff Instruction.
Johnnie Cochran Academy looks to improve our NJDOE School Self- Assessment score by strengthening our school safety team to be able to identify and prevent patterns of bullying behavior throughout our school.
During the upcoming school year, our school will be working towards improving our score. As always, we depend on our parents and the East Orange community for their support and involvement.
For the 2020-21 school year Johnnie L. Cochran Jr. Academy scored a 78/78 on the NJ HIB Assessment.
